And the Winner is ... Shazad!
Shazad Baig, director of dining services, received a standing ovation as he accepted the University’s
first President’s Award for Professional Excellence. It has been created to recognize
a staff member who exemplifies leadership, distinguished accomplishment, job performance,
creativity and innovation, and outstanding service to the University. “He embodies
all five criteria and is a tremendously worthy recipient,” Dr. James Dennis said during
the Honors Convocation on April 24 at the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts.
It took a little behind-the-scenes cajoling to nudge Shazad into the auditorium for
the surprise announcement, as he was busy in the lobby making sure refreshments were
ready for the reception to follow. His cheerful attitude, customer service and dedication
were mentioned by many who nominated him.
